Colleagues in Economics Research Branch, Paul Caskie and Adewale Adenuga received awards recently for (respectively) “Outstanding Contribution to Public Policy, Industry and the Society” and “Outstanding Young Researcher” (for achievement before 40 years of age) from the Agricultural Economics Society.
The presentations were made at the Society’s annual conference held this year at K U Leuven, Belgium. It is believed to be a first for researchers from one organisation to receive both awards in the same year - a notable achievement.
Paul has been Head of Economics Research Branch in SAFSD since January 2020. Prior to that he worked for many years in DAERA Policy, Economics and Statistics Division. His research interests are wide ranging but focus on policy and the use of large administrative datasets for policy relevant analysis. Paul has a long association with the Agricultural Economics Society, both as a member of the Advisory Board for the outreach publication EuroChoices and as a past Chair of the Society’s Executive Committee.
Adewale is a Senior Research Economist whose current research focuses on Land Economics and on measuring the economic and environmental impact of agricultural policies including their effect on the welfare and livelihood of farming households. He was a Walsh Fellowship recipient which enabled him to undertake a four year PhD programme within Queen’s University Belfast and AFBI. More recently, Adewale has been successful in securing two Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) funding to support two multidisciplinary research which aim to find solutions for addressing endemic livestock diseases in the UK.
