‘Healthy Cattle, Healthy Profits’ was the subject under the microscope at a Conference at Greenmount recently and which looked at ways to improve profitability.

The conference organised by AFBI, Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU), AFBI, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC), and National Beef Association (NBA) had a number of speakers from across the industry.
They presented an overview of the causes of cattle deaths and how health planning can reduce those loses. There were also representatives discussing realistic improvements in farm buildings to actively improve animal health.
Delegates also heard from specialist farmers from across the UK on the unique systems and processes in place on their own farms.
Finally, Conall Donnelly of NIMEA looked at the current thinking on the implications of Brexit for the Northern Ireland beef industry.
This proved to be a beneficial conference for anyone involved in the beef industry.
