Marine Climate Change report published

The Marine Climate Change Impacts Partnership (MCCIP), of which AFBI is a member, launched its latest Report Card recently at the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) annual science conference in Glasgow. It focuses on how climate change could affect the implementation of marine biodiversity legislation – and in particular legislation used to establish marine protected areas.

The primary aim of the MCCIP is to provide a co-ordinating framework for the UK, to allow the transfer of high quality evidence on marine climate change impacts, as well as guidance on adaptation and related advice, to policy advisors and decision-makers. AFBI sits on the MCCIP steering group representing DARD and DOE and provides scientific input to partnership.
This latest report card reinforces previous conclusions about potential impacts of climate change on marine habitats, and highlights some of the global scale climate pressures and their potential significance to the regional marine environment. These initiatives will continue to help improved understanding of these processes; advances in knowledge and understanding will allow better management of activities and protect habitats that are at risk of change and are important features for both fisheries and natural heritage.  A pdf version of the report card can be downloaded from www.mccip.org.uk/mbl
