A brand new research feeding system has been installed in the heifer house in a ‘first’ for AFBI Hillsborough, opening up new research possibilities.
AFBI received important capital funding from DARD to replace the obsolete feed intake equipment which was installed over 20 years ago. This funding was achieved in a very competitive funding allocation environment and recognises the importance of accurate feed intake information for the heifer and dairy research programmes.
Both systems are being installed by BioControl, a Norway-based company which was successful in a public procurement competition, is busy installing a number of similar systems in other parts of Europe at present. The main infrastructure of both systems is now in place, and the remaining electrical work was completed by the start of July.
Notes to editors:
AFBI carries out high-quality technology research and development, statutory, analytical, and diagnostic testing functions for DARD and other Government departments, public bodies and commercial companies.
AFBI's Vision is “Scientific excellence in Northern Ireland … serving the world”.
