European animal science conference is Belfast bound

A prestigious European Conference on Animal Science, to be staged in Belfast in 2016, will showcase the local livestock industry and feature Northern Ireland’s strong expertise in animal science.

The Conference was launched at an Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) hosted event held during Balmoral Show.  AFBI staff have a prominent role in organising the Conference on behalf of the host society, the British Society of Animal Science.
The week-long conference from 28 August - 1 September 2016 will be the 67th Meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science.  The Federation was founded in 1949 and has representation from thirty-five countries across Europe.

Speaking at the Launch Event, Dr Sinclair Mayne (AFBI) indicated that up to 1,300 of the world’s leading animal scientists will be involved in the Conference.  “This is one of the most important conferences on animal science globally.  Hosting the Annual Conference of the European Federation of Animal Science in Belfast is a real vote of confidence in the local livestock sector, and in our strong animal science expertise in Northern Ireland.”

Federation President, Professor Philippe Chemineau (INRA, France) and Secretary General, Dr Andrea Rosati travelled especially to Balmoral Show to participate in the Launch Event.  Dr Rosati commented “We really enjoyed our visit to Balmoral Show for the Launch Event.  We are very confident that we have found friendly, committed and experienced people in Belfast and very good facilities.  Everything reached our highest expectations”.
