You are invited to attend a lunchtime guest seminar on "Farm animal welfare and food safety" given by Dr Niamh O'Connell, Queen's University Belfast on Tuesday 26th April 2016 at 1.30 pm in G5, AFBI Headquarters, Newforge Lane, Belfast, BT9 5PX.
This talk will investigate the extent to which the concepts of farm animal welfare and food safety can be linked. In particular, the animal welfare and food safety implications of adopting production systems that are generally perceived to be more ‘welfare friendly’ will be discussed.
This will involve reference to key organisms associated with food poisoning, and also to the concept of anti-microbial resistance. In addition, opportunities to better integrate measures relating to food safety and animal welfare at the abattoir will be discussed.
