Further information
Jonathan undertook a Nuffield Scholarship examining the key reasons why the farming industry fails to implement change, despite many practical solutions being available. He looks at the behaviour associated with change and the necessary steps to deliver effective implementation. The key findings of his Nuffield report were:
- Failure to implement latest farm practice is seriously damaging the UK livestock industry.
- Gathering and interpreting farm data is the most pressing need in UK livestock farming.
- The use of new technology is essential in gathering and assisting with the interpretation of the data.
- Delivering information and training in several different ways is crucial, as is the involvement of ‘leader farmers’ in demonstrating successful implementation.
- Creating confidence in a manager’s ability to deliver change is a vital component of successful implementation of new practice. Ongoing advice and repeated follow up accelerates this process.
This, and more will be discussed in more detail at the seminar.
