Major International Workshop comes to Northern Ireland in 2019

Professor Nicolae Corcionivoschi (AFBI) has recently led a successful bid for Belfast to host the 20th International Workshop on Campylobacter, Helicobacter and related organisms (CHRO) in 2019 and to place the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute at the core of the organisation of this prestigious scientific event. This successful bid was possible due to the international reputation that Prof Corcionivoschi’s research group has with the academic community. AFBI’s role at this meeting will further strengthen our role as a leader in the area of protecting animal and human health.

AFBI has a strong profile in the area of food safety and food microbiology at a UK level.  The important role played by Professor Corcionivoschi in organising this meeting will provide a platform to promote our expertise internationally and to convey the high standards of work being conducted in these fields to existing and potential customers, collaborators and funders.

The presence of the Campylobacter NRL laboratories, GOV Agencies and UK and International Universities will allow us to place AFBI’s food safety research at the core of future international funding applications. This is an excellent opportunity for AFBI to establish ourselves as world leaders in Campylobacter research, and provide DAERA and the agri-food industry locally with further international collaborations in order to ensure our participation in major funding applications.

This international conference takes place every two years and attracts over 500 participants from all across the world and is the foremost event for Campylobacter, Helicobacter and related organisms. Delegates include professors and researchers from universities, government and policy officials, industry representatives, public health epidemiologists, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, veterinarians, and physicians.
