The Association of Veterinary Surgeons Practising in Northern Ireland (AVSPNI) Open Day held annually at AFBI Omagh, is a very well established event in the calendar of the local veterinary profession.
It has taken place in the AFBI Omagh Veterinary Laboratory since 1975 and is typically held at the start of January. This is the only local CPD event always attended by the president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). This year's President Professor Stephen May judged the presentations delivered by practitioners. The event attracted over 100 practitioners making it one of the most popular CPD events of the local veterinary calendar.
After an introduction by Dr Sinclair Mayne, AFBI CEO, presentations on equine pain, genomic testing of dairy herds, bees and beyond and reproduction in dogs were delivered by Esther Skelly Smith, Treenie Bowser, John Hill and Brian Jones respectively.
The annual event helps maintain and enhance the close working relationship between AFBI and local veterinary practitioners, and highlights the importance the veterinary profession places on the disease surveillance work carried out by AFBI.
