Biography
Ziping is an economist and head of ERB’s Systems Modelling group. He is leading in developing and applying systems models including input-output, social accounting matrix and computable general equilibrium analysis for agri-food and rural development policies in AFBI in relation to challenges in economy, environment and nutrition / health. His current research is on net zero carbon and circular economy.
Since 2000, Ziping has worked as PI for more than 20 research projects sponsored by various international, national and local governments and funding bodies, covering areas such as CAP reforms, Brexit, climate change, antimicrobial use and resistance, Chinese market reforms (grains, land and labour) and competitiveness. He is one of the pioneers in developing and applying partial equilibrium and general equilibrium models in agri-food policy analysis in the UK and NI.
Internationally, Ziping has been a member of advisory boards for 3 SCI journals (Food Policy, China Agricultural Economic Review and Animal Nutrition), a reviewer for 15 economic journals and for various EU H2020 projects, a consultant / adviser for 3 international and national governments and external examiner for 7 PhD theses. He was a QUB lecturer on agricultural policy before moving to AFBI and started his career as an economist in the Chinese central government
